Yakitori Musashi is located in a bustling downtown district dense with various eateries. We were responsible for a comprehensive design scope, including a distinctive exterior facade, immersive interior spatial design, and cohesive graphic branding. Our goal was to create a visual anchor that differentiates Musashi from the surrounding restaurants.
야키토리 무사시는 창원 상남동의 번화가에 위치한 레스토랑입니다. 많은 음식점 사이 이목을 끌 수 있는 외부 입면을 포함하여 내부 공간 디자인과 그래픽 작업을 담당하였습니다.
Fluid Intensity
유연한 견고함
Yakitori Musashi is a spatial interpretation inspired by the philosophy of the legendary Japanese swordsman and artist, Miyamoto Musashi. The design seeks a refined equilibrium between a warrior’s disciplined strength and an artist’s fluid sensibility, rooted in the two-sword style (the Niten Ichi-ryu) and the core tenets of The Book of Five Rings—specifically, the principles of adaptive pace, unity within diversity, and the cycle of transition and reform. By modulating the intensity of materiality, circulation, program, and lighting, we established a fluid design context. The space maintains a cohesive identity through a rhythmic language of emphasis and relaxation, orchestrating a multi-layered sequence of sensory variations.
야키토리 무사시는 일본의 전설적인 검객이자 예술가인 미야모토 무사시에게서 영감을 받은 레스토랑입니다. 그의 이도류(니텐이치류)와 저서 오륜서의 핵심 철학, 상황에 맞는 유동적이고 적절한 속도, 다양성 속의 통일성, 전환과 쇄신 등을 바탕으로 검객의 절제된 견고함과 예술가의 유연한 감각 사이의 균형을 디자인적으로 해석하였습니다. 강조와 느슨함의 리드미컬한 언어로 재질과 동선, 프로그램, 조도의 유연한 디자인 맥락을 형성하여 여러 겹의 감각의 변주을 연출하였습니다.
Aesthetics of the Niten Ichi-ryu

We have integrated various dual and complementary concepts within the space. The divisions between the exterior and the interior, and between the dining area and the kitchen, are delineated by a material palette of steel, wood, and stainless steel, facilitating a transition between the intense and soft zones. While design elements defined by sharp lines bestow a sense of disciplined strength, diverse layers of lighting—such as pendants, recessed, and indirect lights—fluidly soften those edges. Notably, the kitchen space embodies the project's most potent symbolism through the juxtaposition of two contrasting materials and lighting schemes.
우리는 공간에 여러 양면적이자 보완적인 개념을 적용하였습니다. 외부와 내부, 손님의 공간과 주방의 공간은 철판-나무-스테인레스로 재료가 구분되며 공간의 강렬한 영역과 부드러운 영역 사이의 전환을 만듭니다. 가볍고 날카로운 선들로 디자인된 요소들은 공간에 단련된 강인함을 부여하는 한편, 펜던트와 매립, 간접 조명 등 다양한 레이어의 빛은 그 날카로움을 유연히 누그러뜨립니다. 특히 주방 공간은 상반된 두 가지 재료와 조명을 사용하여 전체 공간에서 가장 강한 상징성을 표상합니다.
대담하지만 섬세한 서사
Bold yet Exquisite Narrative
To command attention in a dense downtown area, we applied a bold design language to the facade that exudes energy. The repetitive vertical and horizontal patterns extend seamlessly into the interior, intuitively drawing the eyes and footsteps of visitors. Strategically restricted windows—designed as metaphors for the culinary craft—allow the interior and exterior to frame one another, creating a moment for mutual appreciation. A small garden, defining the threshold between the street and the restaurant, serves as a brief but intense transitional zone that invites guests into the experience.
복잡한 번화가에서 시선을 집중시킬 수 있도록 외부 입면에는 에너지를 뿜어내는 볼드한 디자인 언어를 적용했습니다. 반복되는 수직과 수평의 패턴은 내부로 연장되며 사람들의 시선과 발걸음을 자연스레 유도합니다. 적당히 제한된 창은 내부와 외부가 서로 프레이밍 되며 감상할 수 있는 여지를 만들고, 거리와 레스토랑의 경계를 형성하는 작은 정원은 짧지만 강렬한 전이 공간의 역할을 수행합니다.
