Located in the vibrant backstreets near the Masan Bus Terminal, this yakitori restaurant project encompasses both interior design and branding, reinterpreting an old single-story house.
마산시외버스터미널 뒷길 합성동 번화가에 위치한 야키토리 레스토랑입니다. 오래된 단층 주택 형태의 건물을 재해석하여 인테리어 디자인과 브랜딩을 통합적으로 진행한 프로젝트입니다.
Sculpted Gleam
빛, 조각
We sought to intuitively integrate the concept of 'Kage' (shadow) into the restaurant, ensuring the branding unfolds as a singular, cohesive narrative. Typically, light, whether direct or indirect, serves to highlight people, objects, and architectural surfaces, while shadows are relegated to an atmospheric byproduct. At Yakitori Kage, however, this relationship is inverted: deep shadows sculpt the light, and the light itself becomes the object of contemplation. Guests are immersed in the dense shadows, experiencing the beauty of intangible forms.
우리는 레스토랑 공간에 그림자(카게)라는 개념을 직관적으로 적용시켜 브랜딩이 전체적으로 하나의 견고한 플롯이 되기를 바랐습니다. 일반적으로 공간에 적용되는 빛은 간접적이든 직접적이든 사람이나 오브제, 벽이나 천장 등이 돋보이게 하는 역할을 하고, 그림자는 분위기를 자아내는 부산물쯤으로 여겨집니다. 그러나 야키토리 카게에서는 그 관계가 역전되어 짙은 그림자가 빛을 조각하고, 연출된 빛 자체가 관조의 대상이 됩니다. 사람들은 묵직한 그림자에 동화되어 무형의 조형을 즐깁니다.
Gazing Gleam

The rooms of this old building, once a private residence, now serve as individual stages for unique fragments of light. In two of the rooms, simple incisions in the ceiling allow waves of light to cascade down the wall like a waterfall. In another room with a lower ceiling, uplighting interacts with the surface textures to create an intricate play of new shadows. Linear light leaking from the corridor softly bridges the rooms, while the kitchen light filters through the smoke from the charcoal grill, visually anchoring the restaurant’s core identity.
언젠가 주택으로 사용되었던 오래된 건물의 각 방은 고유한 빛 조각의 무대 역할을 합니다. 그중 두 방은 간단히 도려낸 천장을 통하여 빛의 파동이 폭포처럼 벽을 쓸어내리며 쏟아지고, 천장이 낮은 한 방은 상부로 쏘아지는 빛이 표면의 질감과 어우러져 또 다른 그림자들을 형성합니다. 복도의 직선으로부터 새어 나오는 빛은 부드럽게 각 방들을 이어주고, 주방의 빛은 화로에서 뿜어지는 연기 사이 스며들어 공간의 상징성을 시각적으로 강화합니다.
Weight of Shadow
그림자의 무게
To heighten the immersive quality of the space, the walls feature a dualistic material palette. The lower surfaces, reaching table height, are clad in black iron—a cold, dark material that anchors the space and allows the shadows to take root in a sense of stillness. Above this datum, birch wood introduces a softer touch, serving as a canvas that gently diffuses the sculpted gleam across its organic patterns. Through this deliberate horizontal split, we have established a sophisticated hierarchy of textures that defines the atmosphere of the project.
공간의 경험을 극대화하기 위하여 벽면에는 두 가지의 상반된 느낌을 주는 재료가 사용되었습니다. 테이블에 앉은 고객의 신체가 닿는 부분까지는 어둡고 차가운 감각의 흑색 철판이 적용되어 시각적 무게감을 더하고, 공간 하부를 짙은 그림자와 동화시켜 그 속에 뿌리를 내린 듯한 안정감을 형성합니다. 반면, 상부는 부드러운 감각의 자작나무를 사용하여 빛의 번짐을 나무의 무늬와 함께 은은히 받아내도록 하였습니다. 이러한 수평적 재료의 분리는 공간 전반에 걸쳐 깊이 있는 감각의 위계를 완성합니다.
