Cafe On The Hill is a newly built interior project located along Haeundae Dalmaji-gil, where radiant cherry blossoms meet the refreshing azure of the sea. The layout consists of the first-floor service area with a small bakery, while the second floor and rooftop are designed to capture uninterrupted panoramic views.
찬연한 벚꽃 너머 청량한 바다가 펼쳐지는 해운대 달맞이길에 새로이 지어진 카페 온더힐의 인테리어 디자인 프로젝트입니다. 작은 베이커리와 카운터가 위치한 1층, 파노라마 뷰를 즐길 수 있는 2층과 루프탑으로 구성된 공간입니다.

The conceptual process for On the Hill began with an in-depth analysis of the multi-layered context of Dalmaji-gil, one of Busan's most iconic landmarks. This analysis spanned from geographical traits—such as the hills, forests, and the expansive sea and sky—to the symbolic resonance of the full moon, cherry blossoms, camellias, and pine trees. Furthermore, it embraced the historical layers of the site: its heritage as a place where the traditional Ganggangsullae dance was once celebrated and the enduring legacy of the Western restaurant, The House on the Hill. On the Hill was envisioned as the centripetal point where these diverse layers of meaning intersect and converge. By translating this multi-layered language into the cafe’s spatial programming, we sought to manifest a sincere respect for the site’s context, ensuring that its unique narrative serves as both a new symbol and a meaningful continuation of its heritage.
온더힐의 컨셉 프로세스는 부산의 대표적 명소인 달맞이길이 가진 다층적인 맥락을 분석하는 것에서 시작되었습니다. 언덕과 삼림, 펼쳐진 바다와 하늘의 지리적인 특징부터 보름달, 벚꽃, 동백나무와 소나무의 상징성, 오래전 강강수월래를 즐긴 장소이자 긴 시간 운영된 언덕위의 집이라는 양식 레스토랑의 역사성. 온더힐은 이런 다양한 의미의 레이어들이 서로 교차하며 수렴되는 맥락의 구심점이었습니다. 그리고 이 다층성을 카페의 프로그램에 적용시켜 사이트의 맥락에 대한 진실된 존중을 드러내고, 그 유니크함이 새로운 상징이자 전승이 되기를 바랐습니다.

다층적 대화
The floors are functionally categorized into areas for brewing, service, and tasting, yet they are further articulated through detailed contextual layers such as observation, conversation, and consumption. This spatial zoning is defined not only by a hierarchy of privacy and activity but also by a sequence of diverse eye levels carefully crafted to secure expansive panoramic views. Specifically, the multi-level seating arrangements diversify the interactions between individuals and between humans and nature, realizing a dynamic and extraordinary visual experience. Ultimately, these multifaceted contexts and experiences present hierarchical diversity within the space, proposing an active spatial engagement that transcends ordinary passive behaviors through design.
내부는 층별로 브루잉, 서비스, 음미의 공간으로 기능이 나뉘지만, 그 속에서 관망, 대화, 방관, 소비 등의 세부적인 맥락으로 다시 구분됩니다. 여러 조닝들은 행위나 프라이버시의 레벨로도 구분되지만, 최대한의 파노라마 뷰를 확보하기 위한 다양한 눈높이의 시퀀스로도 구분됩니다. 특히 단차를 활용한 좌석 배치는 사람과 사람, 사람과 자연 사이의 관계를 다각화하여 평이하지 않은 시각적 경험을 구현합니다. 이러한 여러 맥락과 경험들은 공간에 위계적 다양성을 제시하고, 일반적인 수동적 행위를 넘어 디자인을 통한 능동적인 공간 경험을 제안합니다.
Unfolding Layers of Blooming Skin
층을 지어 만개하는 표피
The design language applied throughout the space serves as a sculptural device that metaphorically embodies the shifting phases of the moon and the undulating rhythms of the waves, unveiling a rich narrative context . These gracefully flowing forms mirror the natural curves of Dalmaji-gil—the junction where the forest meets the sea—infusing the space with multifaceted three-dimensionality, while the soft, even indirect lighting subtly accentuates their silhouettes
공간 전반에 적용된 시각적 디자인 언어는 시간에 따라 변화하는 달의 위상과 각기 다른 높낮이를 가진 파도를 은유적으로 형상화하여 풍부한 맥락을 드러내는 조형적 장치입니다. 부드럽게 굽이치는 형상은 숲과 바다가 만나는 달맞이길의 자연적 곡선을 투영하여 공간에 다채로운 입체성을 부여하고, 고르게 맺히는 간접 조명은 그 형태를 은은히 강조합니다.
